ABOUT ONELEGACY

OneLegacy Transplant Donor Network is one of 58 regional non-profit, federally designated organizations dedicated to the life-saving and life-enhancing benefits of organ and tissue donation. Working together with the 14 transplant centers and 220 hospitals of Southern California, OneLegacy serves a diverse population of 18.3 million people in Los Angeles, Kern, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

We are nurses, healthcare professionals and community educators who believe passionately in the value of giving greater meaning to those whose lives are tragically cut short by helping children and adults live longer, fuller lives through transplantation. Our staff includes:

-         Procurement Transplant Coordinators, all highly-trained registered nurses and licensed and certified healthcare specialists, work directly with the hospitals and families of potential donors.

-         Assistant Procurement Transplant Coordinators serve as a liaison between the donor family, procurement coordinator and hospital personnel. The family advocates—many of whom are bilingual— provide grief support, help families understand the issues and decisions they must address upon the death of a loved one, offer the opportunity of donation options and obtain informed consent from family members.

-         Hospital Services Coordinators build relationships with our hospital partners to ensure a continuum of quality care to families of potential donors and the smooth and collaborative execution of the approach and donation process.

-         Organ Placement Coordinators apply their unique medical knowledge of organ transplantation to ensure that they are placed rapidly with the best matched recipients.

-         Perioperative Specialists are specially trained registered nurses, LVNs, and OR technicians who manage the recovery of organs for transplant.

-         Community Outreach Professionals communicate with the media and inspire people to donate life.

ABOUT OUR NAME

A legacy is a gift from the past--and the gift of organ donation is the most precious gift of all. It is our purpose, our mission, our passion to help each person in Southern California become aware that he or she has one life in which to make one choice to give one gift and leave one legacy—a personal legacy of caring for others by helping children and adults live longer, fuller lives through organ and tissue transplantation.

The OneLegacy identity includes the organ donation symbol of three elegant, connected arches depicting the three “life bridges” that we build every day: from the donor to OneLegacy, from OneLegacy to the organ recipient, and from the donor to the recipient. The symbol is intended to remind people that every day the staff of OneLegacy is bridging lives. It is our sincere hope that the OneLegacy name will help the public discover that organ and tissue donation provides the opportunity to give greater meaning to their lives—and that of their loved ones.
