    Age: 51
    Occupation: Registered nurse

In 1989, a case of pneumonia developed into a life-threatening lung disease. She was transplanted at USC University Hospital on April 7, 2002. As a volunteer for OneLegacy, Eunice is devoted to raising awareness of donation/transplantation in the African American community.

    Eunice's Story

A diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and secondary pulmonary hypertension led to my need for a double lung transplant.

I've often heard the expression "a life changing experience," and on February 2, 2002, I had one. The long-anticipated transplant happened. And thanks to a giving and courageous family, my life would experience a rebirth.

It is now 2003, and as I reflect one constant thought is that my donor gave me more than lungs, and it truly embodies the concept "DONATE LIFE." Yes, I've gained a healthier functioning body. I am able to work as a nurse consultant at an adult day care facility with a wonderful group of senior citizens, some as old as 101, and all of whom I am in awe. What I've been given is a second chance to demonstrate compassion and purpose and experience joy. Thank you, my donor family.
