High School Education

There is no better place to educate first-time drivers about organ donation than the classroom, and specifically 9th and 10th grade health classes. However, as in all other states, organ donation education is not required in California schools. With hundreds of high schools in OneLegacy's service area, reaching young people is a challenge, requiring extraordinary resources to gain entry to classrooms and deliver educational presentations.

In Fall 2010, Donate Life California, administrator of the state-authorized organ and tissue donor registry, will distribute a 10-minute educational video and companion teacher's guide to all public high schools statewide. OneLegacy will support the mailing with followup phone calls and offers of volunteer testimonials to encourage school administrators and teachers to provide students with foundational information that will enable them to confidently answer the donation question that appears on the driver's license application form.
