International Transplant and Donation Experts Meet at Global Leadership Symposium in Del Mar

 

 

OneLegacy is joining with three leading colleague organizations to produce the Transplant Donation Global Leadership Symposium being held May 10-13 in Del Mar, Calif., to provide organ donation and transplantation specialists from around the world with a framework to successfully implement or expand life-saving programs in their countries.

 

Designed to provide aspiring leaders from developed and developing transplant and donation communities the experience of learning from their peers and mentors, the Global Leadership Symposium is sponsored by OneLegacy, Gift of Life Institute, LifeSource and Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) from the University of Barcelona.

 

“Donation doesn't simply happen; it requires leaders, and they need experience, exchange and education,” said Tom Mone, CEO and Executive Vice President of OneLegacy. “The Global Leadership Symposium will provide them with the chance to dialogue with colleagues from around the world in order to expand their understanding of the donation practice and increase lives saved thorough transplantation in their countries.”

 

Participants in the Global Leadership Symposium will identify the varying legal, ethical, cultural, financial and organizational structures and strategies required to inspire their nations, communities, caregivers, families, and citizens to say ‘yes’ to organ donation.

 

The Global Leadership Symposium will bring together over 100 donation professionals from places as diverse as Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States.

 

Key objectives of the Symposium are:

 

 

  • To break down the donation process to its core elements and explore strategies to develop and improve each element;
  • To explore the distinct skills and roles required for a successful donation program and the interpersonal leadership talents required to ensure seamless collaboration;
  • To identify the cultural and legal foundations that lead to diversity in donation around the world and ways to bridge these differences to maximize donation everywhere;
  • To examine the role of managers as leaders not only of their staff but of their communities and countries’ efforts to increase donation; and
  • To share experiences with colleagues in donation and to learn from mentors who helped develop donation and manage some of the largest and most successful donation programs around the world.
