Donation After Circulatory Determination of Death:
Referral to Recovery

A Comprehensive Course for Organ Donation Coordinators

For families of patients with extremely low brain activity, donation after circulatory determination of death (DCDD) is an opportunity that helps bring closure and comfort to an otherwise devastating event. It is framed by two distinct decisions: to withdraw life-sustaining treatment, and to donate organs and tissues after death occurs.

To best support these families' decisions to donate, OneLegacy's Donation Science Research and Education department is pleased to offer a comprehensive one- or two-day seminar on DCDD.

This workshop is specifically designed to improve the skills required for an organ donation coordinator to successfully plan and execute DCDD cases.

Participants are immersed in real-life sensory simulation sessions customized to meet different donor profiles, present advanced clinical challenges, and integrate family crisis situations in realistic surgical suite and ICU family room settings. This high-paced, team-oriented, interactive workshop translates didactic knowledge into lifelike clinical donor scenarios that are videotaped and recorded in real-time. After each session, physician instructors evaluate performance improvement opportunities through a group debriefing and review of multi-view video recordings.

Individual and team hands-on experience combined with immediate feedback improves observational training skills, and provides opportunities for each team to repeat the session as applicable.

Participants will leave this workshop inspired, confident, and motivated to apply newfound knowledge and skills to their life-saving mission.
